SHREDZ SHOP

SHREDZ SHOP

Shredz Shop is a small local skate shop in my home town of Cochrane, AB. Growing up in a small town, there wasn’t much to do as kids, but the skate park, and Shredz Shop provided a safe haven where I, along with all my friends, could hang out, goof around, and find a sense of community.

Building Community

Fast forward to about 10 years later, and I get message from Sam Stuart, the owner of Shredz Shop. He wants my help with a passion project. I was very excited about this idea, the chance to give back to the community that had given me so much, and the chance to expand that community and share it with others.

So myself, Sam (the shop owner), and Levi (the host) set out to build an online community of skateboard nerds like us. A place where we could teach, learn, and discuss the industry with like-minded people.

We started a youtube channel, and started filming and posting videos.

Then something
amazing happened.

The community began to grow. And grow. And kept growing. Skateboard enthusiasts from all over the globe began pouring in by the thousands. It turns out people really enjoyed our content. Within about 5 years, we had built an online community of about 157,000 across platforms.

This surge of support led to some really cool opportunities and experiences.

Like being invited to a private VANS shoe release party in Los Angeles

Or going to the New Balance headquarters to make a video with Andrew Reynolds about is new shoe.

Being able to travel around to various skateparks and give free skateboards to local kids.

Or travelling all over California interviewing pro skateboarders about their lives, careers, and making them read mean tweets about themselves.
